Non-surgical weight loss options

At Inspire Bariatrics, we understand that surgery is not the answer for everyone.  In addition, some patients would benefit from additional help with weight loss before or following surgery.

We offer non-surgical weight-loss options like:

  • Carefully curated dietary guidance for many different needs.
  • Referral to a licensed nutritionist.
  • Support groups.
  • Referral to a licensed professional counselor
  • Medication options
  • And more!

Before considering a non-surgical weight loss device, consult with your doctor about the risks and potential benefits compared to bariatric (weight loss) surgery.

Surgical weight loss options

We offer many minimally invasive weight loss options but before any decisions are made you will need to schedule a consultation.

Pre-surgery consultation

During our pre-surgery consultation, you will meet with a doctor to discuss your goals, current health, and available weight loss options. We will also explain what positive dietary changes you can make to ensure a successful surgery.

What we offer

All of our surgeries are done as minimally invasive procedures using the Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgery System when possible.

Weight Loss Surgery Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the cost of weight loss surgery?

The cost of bariatric (weight loss) surgery may be different based on the type of procedure you receive and your chosen provider. The cost of weight-loss surgeries ranges depending on insurance plans and coverage. Gastric bypass surgery is the most expensive and gastric sleeve and lap-band surgery are on the lower end of that range.

Am I a candidate for weight loss surgery? What are weight loss surgery requirements?

Most forms of weight loss surgery require a minimum BMI (Body Mass Index) number. The minimum BMI needed for weight loss surgery varies depending on the chosen weight loss surgery, procedure, insurance requirements, and provider. General requirements include reaching a BMI number of 30 or higher. Patients with type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypercholesterolemia, or high blood pressure may have a higher probability of qualifying for bariatric surgery. Patients with a BMI of greater than 40 may also qualify for bariatric surgery with no “co-morbidities” or illnesses.  Patients with a BMI of 30-34.9 may also benefit from bariatric surgery, but most insurances do not cover it in this case.

Calculate your BMI and learn more about the requirements for weight loss surgery with Dr. McCalman at Inspire Bariatrics.

What are the types of weight loss surgery?

Common weight-loss surgeries include gastric bypass surgery, gastric sleeve surgery, and lap-band surgery.

What can you expect after bariatric surgery?

Recovery times are different for each type of weight loss surgery. Dr. McCalman will discuss recovery time in detail with you at your appointment.

How much weight can you lose with bariatric surgery?

The type of surgery and your commitment to developing beneficial habits will impact your results. By making long-lasting changes, losing 45-120 pounds or more after bariatric surgery is entirely possible! How much to lose depends on where you started, what surgery you decided on, and how much you are able to work with that surgery to lose weight.  Many patients lose well beyond their initial goal!

It’s time to consider making a change

Has weight loss been on your mind for years? Consider a safe, long-lasting change to your weight with bariatric surgery.

Before scheduling your appointment with Dr.McCalman, it’s important to know that achieving long-term results from weight loss surgery requires commitment. No surgery is permanent if healthy habits are not developed and maintained.

If you are committed to your health and making lasting changes, weight loss surgery can help you achieve lasting results, meet your goals, and live a healthy life.
